“Selah” is a Hebrew word used in the Bible books “Psalms” for 71 times and in “Habakkuk” for 3 times. The origin of the word or its exact meaning is unknown but there are various interpretations as below
- Might be used to denote a music notation that means “Lift up your voices”.
- A note in a text (related to music) which means “Stop and Listen”
- Might denote a “Pause” in the song
- Some say it is derived from the Hebrew root word “calah” which means “to hang” or “to weigh”.
- Similar to the purpose of “Amen” in a song to emphasize the importance of the preceding text or passage.
